Sotheby’s: How the World's Oldest Auction House is Embracing the Future





Having spent two years (July 2021 - July 2023) as a Senior Product Designer at Sotheby's, I played a key role in their ongoing digital transformation. Witnessing firsthand the challenges and triumphs of bringing a prestigious auction house like Sotheby's into the digital age fueled my fascination with this evolving landscape.

This journey involves a multitude of initiatives, and in this piece, we'll explore design strategies for creating a seamless online browsing and buying experience for luxury goods collectors. Through these examples, we'll gain insights into how Sotheby's is leveraging design to navigate the exciting world of digital auctions.







03 UX Research: Search feature in the Client system


Sotheby’s built its Client System 15 years ago. In the middle of digital transformation, we want to move our users from using the Client System entirely by makes using Admin. Then we realized the Sotheby’s Admin is problematic. Especially the Search feature.
